Get your iphone online in Thailand the easy way
There is a lot of nonsense around on websites about how to get a Thai 3G internet iPhone sim card in Ko Samui. So let’s set the record straight.
Just go to almost any Tesco or Big C shopping centre (Tesco in Lamai or Chaweng, Big C in Chaweng up the top near Bophut). There are small shops in these centres selling mobile phones. They also sell Happy 3G or True-Move 3G sim cards for about 200 Bt and will install them in your phone and set them up free of charge. Don’t try to buy iPhone 4 or 5 sim cards at 7-Eleven or Family Mart as they won’t have the tool to cut them to the correct size.
I bought the True Move 3G iPhone sim card in Ko Samui and it was set up in minutes. You only get about 6 Bt of credit but its enough to test that it’s working. You can easily buy top-up cards at any of the 7-11 or Family Mart supermarkets that are every 200 metres in Ko Samui. I bought a 300 Bt top up card and it should last me 2-3 weeks. Not bad for $10!
If your iPhone is locked to your service provider, these small phone shops in the big shopping centres can unlock it for 800 Bt, but you have to leave it with them for a couple of hours as they have to send it somewhere else to be unlocked.
