What Is The Full Moon Party?

Full Moon Parties are held once a month during the full moon. Thousands of party lovers, young, old, tourists, and quite a few local revelers come to Koh Phangan, one of the most beautiful islands in Thailand, to party together on the beaches until the early hours and even later in the morning. This is a real attraction that attracts crowds from all over the world. Rhythm, colours, smells, music and the whole atmosphere make a full moon party in Thailand an event for the senses. An event that everyone wants to attend.

Where The Party Takes Place?

The party takes place on the island of Koh Phangan – this huge party involves most of the clubs on the island, which are located on the beach of Haad Rin in the east. The area is a small reef at the southernmost tip of Koh Phangan and consists of two beaches – Sunrise Beach to the southeast of Haad Rin and Sunset Beach to the south-west.

The Full Moon Party is held every month at Sunrise Beach, which is the busier, more colorful and popular beach. However, if you are looking for a more peaceful, rural and quiet place, Sunset Beach is the right choice for you. During the rest of the year, Haderín is a very attractive tourist destination and is considered Copenhagen’s most attractive beach. There are several bars, clubs, restaurants and, most importantly, a lively nightlife.

Along its length you’ll find first-class resorts, luxury accommodation and exceptionally soft white sand beaches and crystal clear waters. Anyone looking to stay at one of the island resorts before or after their party will find that each resort offers everything you need for a perfect vacation: modern amenities, swimming pools, and easy access to the beach.

History of the Full Moon Party:

The first full moon party in history took place in 1985. It was actually a spontaneous party held at the hotel’s “Paradise Bungalows” to thank hotel guests. Since then, the party has gained crazy word-of-mouth popularity. I heard The number of tourists increases month by month. Today, the Full Moon Party attracts 10,000 to 30,000 visitors each month to party until dawn. The Full Moon Party is considered the most famous party in Thailand, and almost every visitor to Thailand will be at this crazy party!

Safety rules for the Full Moon party:

  1. Avoid Drugs: Undercover agents and civilians may offer drugs, leading to potential arrest. Thailand’s strict drug laws can ruin your trip. Don’t trust anyone offering drugs.
  2. Footwear: Wear closed shoes to avoid cuts from broken glass on the beach. Flip-flops are okay, but beware of broken bottles. Never go barefoot.
  3. Hotel Information: Keep a note with your hotel name in your bag in case you drink too much and forget your whereabouts.
  4. Alcohol Purchase: Buy alcohol only from 7/11 stores to avoid fake drinks sold on the beach, which can cause severe hangovers.
  5. Closed Drinks: Only consume sealed drinks to avoid tampering. Avoid accepting food or drinks from strangers at parties.
  6. Passport Photo: Bring a passport photo in case the police ask for identification. Don’t take chances.
  7. Valuables: Leave valuables like jewelry, large sums of money, passports, etc., at home. Thefts are common, and it’s easy to lose items when intoxicated.
  8. Hydration: Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration and hangovers. Alcohol dehydrates the body, so keep a water bottle handy.
  9. Accommodation: Stay in Copenhagen instead of Kosmoi to avoid overcrowding and rowdy tourists returning from the party. Minimum stay of 5 nights in the Hudrin area during the full moon period is recommended.
